Baselines

A baseline is a set of pro-forma financial statements for one SPV. Tensor Cloud builds it from simulations of the SPV's assets under a scenario you choose, together with the SPV's financial settings. You can compare actual results against a baseline on the AM dashboard. For background, see Financial baselines.

To open the Baselines screen, select AM > Baselines in the side navigation. It lists every baseline in the current workspace. Open one to read its statements by month or by financial year.

info

The Balance sheet and Cashflow statement are not available in every workspace. Without them, a baseline shows only its Profit & Loss statement.

How a baseline is generated

Each baseline belongs to one SPV and one scenario. When you create it, Tensor Cloud simulates every asset that belongs to the SPV under the selected scenario, then combines those results with the SPV's financial settings (equity, debt, SPV operating expenses, and taxes) to produce the statements. CAPEX items with an asset retirement obligation feed into the same statements.

Tensor Cloud runs this calculation once, when you create the baseline, and stores the result. Later changes to the SPV, its assets, or the scenario do not update an existing baseline. To pick them up, create a new baseline, for example with Create from this (see Creating a baseline).

Each baseline has one of three statuses:

StatusMeaning
In progressThe statements are still being calculated.
GeneratedThe statements are ready to view and download.
FailedGeneration failed. Tensor Support is notified automatically.

Baseline list

The list shows one row per baseline, newest changes first. It refreshes automatically, so a baseline moves from In progress to Generated without a page reload.

ColumnDescription
IDReadable ID of the baseline, in the form {workspace code}-B-{number}. Click it to copy.
Baseline nameName of the baseline. Click it to open the baseline.
SPV nameSPV the baseline was generated for. A Deleted chip appears if the SPV has since been deleted.
Scenario nameScenario used for the baseline. A Deleted chip appears if the scenario has since been deleted.
StatusIn progress, Generated, or Failed.
Modified byLast person who changed the baseline.
Last modifiedDate and time of the last change.

Use the controls above the list to narrow it down:

  • Search: Matches the baseline name or ID.
  • Filter: Opens a side panel where you can filter by SPV, Scenario, and Status. The panel shows how many baselines match out of the total.
  • View: Choose which columns to show. ID and Baseline name are always shown.

The menu at the end of each row has three actions: Rename, Create from this, and Delete.

If the workspace has no baselines yet, the screen shows a Create baseline button instead of the list.

Creating a baseline

Click Add new above the list to open the Create a baseline dialog, then fill in three fields:

  • Baseline name: The name shown in the list and on the dashboard.
  • Select an SPV: The SPV to generate the baseline for. Only SPVs that have at least one asset can be selected. The help icon next to the field links to the SPV list.
  • Select a scenario: The macroeconomic assumptions to simulate the assets with. The help icon links to the scenario list.

The dialog suggests the SPV and scenario of the most recently created baseline in the list. With no baseline yet, it suggests the workspace's default scenario. When a list has more than ten entries, up to three recently used SPVs or scenarios are listed first, above the full list.

Click Create. The new baseline appears in the list as In progress and changes to Generated once the statements are ready.

Create from this, in a row's menu, opens the same dialog with that baseline's name, SPV, and scenario filled in. It creates a new baseline with a fresh calculation and leaves the original unchanged.

Creating, renaming, and deleting baselines requires write access to the workspace.

Viewing a baseline

Click a baseline name in the list to open it. The header shows the baseline name, the SPV's readable ID and name, and these controls:

  • Previous and next arrows: Step through the baselines in the order of the list you came from.
  • Displayed unit: Show values in Yen or in Thousands of yen. Values are rounded to whole numbers in either unit.
  • Actions menu (three dots): Rename, Download, and Delete.

If the baseline is not ready yet, the page shows a placeholder instead of the statements:

  • Your baseline is being created: The page checks the status every few seconds and shows the statements as soon as they are ready. You can stay on the page or go back to the list.
  • Baseline creation failed: Tensor Support has been informed. Use Back to baseline list to return.

A link to a baseline that no longer exists shows Baseline not found, with a button back to the list.

Statements

A baseline has up to three statements, each on its own tab:

  • Profit & Loss
  • Balance sheet
  • Cashflow statement

Where the balance sheet and cash flow statement are not available, the page shows only the profit and loss statement, without tabs.

Statement table

Each statement is a table with a Line item column, a Total column, and one column per period. Top-level lines are highlighted and their sub-lines are indented beneath them. Some rows are section headings and carry no values.

The table covers the periods that contain data. Periods at the start or end where every line is zero are left out. The Total column is the sum of the values in the row's period columns.

Table controls

Above the table:

  • Search by line item: Shows the lines whose name matches, together with the lines above them in the hierarchy.
  • Monthly / Yearly: Show one column per month or one per financial year. Yearly groups months by the SPV's financial year, and each year is labeled with the calendar year in which it starts. Profit and loss lines and most cash flow lines are summed over the year. Balance sheet lines show the value at the end of the financial year. In the cash flow statement, Cash at beginning of period takes the year's first month and Cash at end of period its last month.
  • Hide 0-rows: Hide lines that are zero in every period.
  • Open calendar: Pick a month (or a year in Yearly mode) to scroll the table to it.

Below these controls, the Timeline overview bar marks each financial year and highlights the part of the timeline currently visible. Drag the highlighted box to scroll. You can also drag the table itself sideways.

Breaking a line down

Some lines have an Expand button. Click it to open a second table below the statement that splits the line into one row per asset contributing to it, plus any SPV-level amounts that are not tied to an asset. Both tables share the same columns and scroll together.

Drag the divider between the tables to resize them. Close the breakdown with the close button in its header, or by clicking Expand on the same line again.

Downloading a baseline

Select Download in the actions menu to save the baseline as an Excel workbook. The workbook has two sheets for each available statement:

  • A yearly sheet, with one column per SPV financial year. Its values are formulas that refer to the monthly sheet, aggregated the same way as the Yearly view.
  • A monthly sheet, with one column per month.

The balance sheet and cash flow statement are included only where they are available. Every sheet starts with the baseline name, the export date, and the unit. Values are always in yen, regardless of the Displayed unit setting. Each sheet has a total column, and lines are grouped by level so you can collapse them in Excel.

Renaming and deleting a baseline

Select Rename from the row menu in the list or from the actions menu on the baseline page. Enter the new Name and click Save.

Select Delete to remove a baseline. Deleting removes access to all of the baseline's data. To confirm, check the acknowledgement box with the baseline's name and click Delete. If you delete from the baseline page, you return to the list.
