Aggregation contract settings

Aggregation contracts are available when enabled for your workspace; see Introduction.

The aggregation contract form has two sections. The General section holds the Contract terms, Fee terms, Payment terms, Operating policy, and Notes tabs. The Operating policy tab appears only for grid battery contracts. The Connections section holds the Assets tab. This page describes each tab in that order.

Everything you change, including the assets and their terms, is saved together when you press Save. Each save becomes one entry in the contract's change history.

Contract terms

The Contract terms tab records who the contract is with, what kind of service it covers, and how long it runs.

Contract status

The choices are Draft, Signed, and Started. New contracts start as Draft.

Only Signed and Started contracts count toward realized revenue, so a Draft contract moves no money. A PPA's status, by comparison, is only used for filtering and sorting.

Contract name

The name shown in the contract list. This field is required, takes up to 50 characters, and must not already be used by another aggregation contract in the workspace.

Contract kind

The kind decides the fee model, the default values, and which fields the form shows. This field is required. There are four kinds:

KindFee model
PV standaloneService fee
PV with co-located batteryService fee
Grid battery (low voltage)Revenue share
Grid battery (high voltage)Revenue share

Picking a kind sets these defaults:

FieldPV kindsGrid battery kinds
Initial term1 year3 years
Settlement scheduleNotice the following monthNotice three months later
Early-termination penaltyNone30,000 JPY/month (low voltage), 300,000 JPY/month (high voltage)

If you switch to another kind later, a field still at the old kind's default moves to the new kind's default. A value you entered yourself stays.

Counterparty (asset owner)

The company that owns the assets under the contract. This field is required, and only stakeholders of type Owner can be chosen. Manage them in the stakeholders tab of the Tensor Cloud settings, or create one from the dropdown with Add new.

You cannot delete a company while a contract names it as the counterparty.

Signing date

The date the contract was signed. This field is required and accepts dates between 2016-04-01 and 2049-12-31. Each asset has its own supply start date, which you set on the Assets tab.

Initial term

The length of the first term in whole years, at least 1. After this term, the contract renews as set under Renewal.

Renewal

How the contract renews at the end of its term: Yearly auto-renewal (the default) or No auto-renewal.

Renewal refusal notice

How many months before the end of the term a renewal must be refused. The default is 3 months.

End date

Leave this field empty while the contract runs. Set it once the contract ends because a renewal was refused or the contract was terminated. The end date cannot be before the signing date.

Service scope

The services the contract covers. At least one is required. The list depends on the kind, and all of the kind's services are ticked by default. The service scope is a record only and does not change any calculation.

PV kinds offer:

  • Generation planning and submission
  • Imbalance supply and offtake
  • Party to the generation balancing contract
  • JEPX spot and intraday selling
  • Environmental value transfer and invoicing on the owner's behalf
  • Environmental value sale
  • Generation-side wheeling charge collection on the owner's behalf
  • Monthly volume and revenue reporting
  • Battery charge and discharge control (PV with co-located battery only)

Grid battery kinds offer:

  • JEPX spot and intraday trading
  • Balancing market ΔkW
  • Balancing market activated energy
  • Spare capacity utilization
  • Capacity market

Early-termination penalty basis

This field and the next appear only for grid battery contracts. The penalty is charged for each month left in the term when the contract ends early.

  • Per contract (the default): one penalty for the whole contract, entered below.
  • Per asset: each asset has its own penalty, counted to the end of that asset's own term. You enter it on the Assets tab.

Early-termination penalty

The penalty in JPY per month remaining in the term, for the Per contract basis. Tensor Cloud records the penalty but does not calculate it.

Deleting an aggregation contract

When you edit an existing contract, the bottom of the Contract terms tab has Delete aggregation contract, which deletes the contract permanently.

Fee terms

The Fee terms tab sets what the asset owner pays for the service. Its fields depend on the contract kind, so pick a kind first. All amounts exclude tax.

Service fee (PV kinds)

PV contracts pay a monthly base fee plus a fee per kWh of metered volume.

  • Base fee: the fixed monthly fee in JPY/month. Enter 0 if there is none. The default is 0.
  • Pro-rate base fee: if on, the base fee for the first and last month is reduced to the days the asset was under contract. Off by default.
  • Base fee start month: the first month the base fee is charged, either First supply month (the default) or Signing month.
  • Per-kWh fee: the fee in JPY/kWh of metered volume. Required, with no default.

The volume is the TSO-confirmed meter volume, valued at the JEPX realized sale price. These two settings cannot be changed. They appear on the Fee terms card.

Revenue share (grid battery kinds)

Grid battery contracts pay a share of the net trading result. The net result is operating revenue minus procurement costs.

  • Performance fee rate: the share of the net result, between 0 and 100% with up to two decimals. The default is 10%.
  • Capacity award rate: the share of the capacity award. It follows the performance fee rate until you change it. The default is 10%.
  • Settlement admin fee: a monthly fee in JPY/month, never pro-rated. The default is 500 JPY/month.
  • Operating revenue: the revenue lines that count toward the net result. At least one is required. All are ticked by default: JEPX spot sales, JEPX intraday sales, balancing market ΔkW award, balancing market activated energy, spare capacity settlements, and other service income.
  • Procurement costs: the cost lines subtracted before the share is applied. At least one is required. All are ticked by default: JEPX purchases, retailer charging cost and levies, imbalance charges, market penalties, and balancing market bid fees.
  • Owner-borne items: costs the owner pays outside the share. Both are ticked by default: the generation-side wheeling charge and the settlement admin fee.

In a month where the net result is zero or negative, no fee is charged and the owner carries the loss. This rule cannot be changed.

Payment terms

The Payment terms tab sets when a month is settled. Each calendar month is settled on its own, and kWh and JPY figures are rounded half up to whole numbers. Neither can be changed.

Settlement schedule

When the payment notice for a month goes out. Notices go out by the 3rd business day of the notice month, and payment is due at the end of that month. The default depends on the kind.

  • Notice the following month, paid by its end: the default for PV kinds.
  • Notice two months later, paid by its end.
  • Notice three months later, paid by its end: the default for grid battery kinds.

Consumption tax rate

The tax added to the settlement amount and shown separately, between 0 and 100% with one decimal. The default is 10%.

Operating policy

This tab appears only for grid battery contracts. It records the operating limits agreed with the owner. Every field is optional.

  • Cycle cost: the marginal cost per kWh cycled through the battery, in JPY/kWh, between 0 and 100,000. The default is 4 JPY/kWh.
  • Maximum cycles: the maximum number of cycles over the whole operating period. The default is 10,000.
  • State of charge range: the minimum and maximum state of charge the battery is operated at, in %. The minimum must be below the maximum. The defaults are 10% and 90%.
  • Market scope: the markets the assets may be traded in. All are ticked by default: JEPX spot, JEPX intraday, primary reserve, secondary reserve 2, tertiary reserve 1, tertiary reserve 2, and the capacity market main auction.
  • Reporting items: the items of the monthly operating report. All are ticked by default: charge and discharge by 30-minute slot, award results per market, and penalties.

Notes

Free-text notes about the contract, up to 10,000 characters. Signed documents go on the Files tab.

Assets

The Assets tab lists the assets under the contract and the terms each one is under. Any type of asset can be added, and an asset can be under more than one aggregation contract.

Adding assets

Press Add, select the assets, and press Next. Assets already on this contract are not offered. Then enter the terms for the selected assets and press Add. The terms apply to all of them:

  • Supply start date: the first day the asset is under the contract. Grid battery contracts call it Planned operation start date. It starts at the contract's signing date.
  • End date: the last day the asset is under the contract. Leave it empty while the asset remains under the contract.

Grid battery contracts have three more terms:

  • Term start date: the start of this asset's own term. It follows the supply start date. For an asset added by a memorandum, enter the memorandum date. A supply start date before the term start date shows a warning but is allowed.

  • Initial fee tier and Initial fee amount: a one-off fee billed separately, outside the monthly settlement. Tensor Cloud records it but does not bill it. Picking a tier fills in its usual amount, which you can change:

    TierUsual amount
High voltage, EMS linked1,000,000 JPY (default for high voltage)
Low voltage, EMS linked300,000 JPY (default for low voltage)
    Not EMS linked3,500,000 JPY
    None0 JPY
  • Early-termination penalty: for the Per asset penalty basis only, the penalty per remaining month of this asset's term. It starts at the kind's default.

Editing asset terms

Click a row to edit that asset's terms. To edit several at once, select them and press Edit selected. A field whose value differs between the selected assets shows Multiple values, and if you leave it empty, each asset keeps its own value.

The Terms column marks assets whose terms differ from the defaults or are incomplete:

  • Custom terms: the asset has its own term start date, an initial fee other than its tier's amount, or its own penalty.
  • Incomplete terms: a required term is missing, for example after you changed the contract kind or the penalty basis.

Removing assets

Select assets and press Remove, or use the row menu. Removing an asset also takes its past months off the contract. To keep the months the asset was under the contract, set an end date instead.

If an asset is deleted, a link that is running on that day ends that day, and a link that has not started yet is removed.
