Creating simulations

You can view and create simulations in the Tensor Cloud simulation section which is accessible from the the left-hand navigation menu.

Simulation list

The simulation list shows you all simulations that have been created in your workspace. It is structured similarly to the asset and PPA list with slightly different column contents. The simulation list contains 4 columns:

  1. Simulation ID and simulation name
  2. Simulation scope, which shows you the number of assets and PPAs included in each simulation
  3. Date of creation
  4. Simulation author

You can click the icon to the right of a simulation name to star that simulation.

How to create a simulation

Creating a new simulation is simple: Start by clicking the Create simulation button at the top right of the simulation list, then select the assets and scenarios in scope for the simulation.

Choosing assets

As a first step, you need to select all assets you want to include in the scope of the simulation. You will be able to select up to 1,000 assets. Contact Tensor support if you need to generate simulations with more assets.

You can select assets by clicking on them in the asset list. If your workspace contains a large number of assets, you can easily refine your selection by searching for assets and adding them to your selection. Before selecting scenarios in the next step, confirm your asset selection by clicking the Show only selected assets toggle on the top right.

Choosing scenarios

In the second step, you can select up to 4 scenarios to include in the scope of your simulation.

note

Selecting simulation scenarios will not change the default scenario that is assigned to each asset.

Time requirements

Tensor Cloud will run a detailed techno-economic simulation for each asset under each scenario in scope of the simulation. For example, if you create an simulation with 500 assets and 4 scenarios, 2,000 simulations will run, each of which generates millions of data points, leading to billions of calculations. While our infrastructure is parallelized and extremely scalable, this process might take a few minutes, depending on how many simulations are currently being generated. As a general rule, the more assets and the more scenarios you include in the scope of your simulation, the longer you might have to wait.

tip

If you want fast results, we recommend limiting the number of scenarios in scope of your simulation as much as possible.
