Introduction
Special purpose vehicles (SPVs) are legal entities that often own and operate renewable energy assets. They are one of the central building blocks of modeling out your portfolio on Tensor Cloud and usually form the top level of your portfolio hierarchy.
SPVs are more than a logical way to group your assets on Tensor Cloud: They aggregate all cash flows from the assets they own and allow you to generate a complete set of financial statements and indicators that are updated in real-time.
As outlined in below diagram, you can create as many SPVs in each workspace as you want. Each SPV in turn can contain an arbitrary amount of assets.
Although not shown in above diagram, Tensor Cloud does not prevent you from modeling PPAs spanning multiple SPVs. However, this is something we expect to only rarely, if ever, occur in reality given that PPAs are legal contracts that are usually bound to a single legal entity.
Viewing SPVs
The SPV list which is accessible under SPVs from the main navigation menu, shows all SPVs contained in the current workspace. The list shows the SPV name in Japanese and English, the number of assets contained in the SPV, and the total DC capacity of all assets in the SPV.
Clicking on the SPV ID or name opens a more detailed view that not only shows a list with all assets contained in the SPV but also lets you download a complete set of financial statements for the SPV in Excel format with the click of a button.
Creating and editing SPVs
You can create a new SPV by clicking on the "Add new" button in the top right corner of the SPV list.
Creating a new SPV is split into three simple steps: Entering information about the legal entity, entering financial information, and selecting assets that should become part of the SPV. Details about each step are outlined in the SPV settings section.
To edit an existing SPV, click the three dots next to the SPV name in the SPV list and select "Edit".
