Background
Tensor Cloud watches the 30-minute generation data of solar assets and flags production problems automatically. Each problem appears as an Anomaly event on the asset's timeline, marked as Auto detected. The event appears once the problem is confirmed and closes by itself when the asset recovers.
Anomaly types
| Anomaly | When it opens | When it closes |
|---|---|---|
| No generation | The asset records zero output in daylight, while the sun is high enough that a healthy asset would produce. Periods with confirmed curtailment in the area do not count. | Two consecutive 30-minute periods with output |
| No data | An asset that reported regularly stops sending data. It is reported after about one day without data. Assets that have never reported data are not flagged. | Data arrives again and keeps arriving for 6 hours |
| Out of range | More energy in a 30-minute period than the asset could produce at 105% of its Site AC capacity (for example, more than 52.5 kWh for a 100 kW site), or a negative reading. | 48 hours without such a reading |
| Low output | The asset's best 30-minute output over the last 14 days relative to its capacity is below 60% of the typical (median) value across all solar assets monitored by Tensor Cloud in the same period. Checked once a day. | The best output recovers, and stays recovered for 48 hours |
How it works
Alerts are checked every 30 minutes. Low output is checked once a day, after the day is complete.
The start time shown on an anomaly is when the problem was first detected. The anomaly is only added to the timeline once the problem is confirmed, which can take several hours, or about a day for No data. A new anomaly can therefore show a start time well in the past.
Alerts are notifications only
An anomaly informs you about a problem. It does not change how Tensor Cloud operates the asset: forecasts, plans and bidding continue as usual.
If the problem affects operation, for example the asset is offline or its output should be excluded from plans, create a separate Maintenance or Incident event on the asset's timeline. Turn on Operational impact and select the Affected equipment (Generation, Battery or Load); forecasts and plans exclude only the selected equipment during the event. See effect on operations for what such an event changes.
What to do
- No generation or Low output: check the asset on site, for example inverters, breakers and strings.
- No data: check the data connection of the asset's meter or monitoring system.
- Out of range: check the readings of the asset's meter or EMS, and that the Site AC capacity in the Grid section of the asset settings is correct.
